Every first friday of the month at 8 o’clock in the morning, inside de Oude Kerk there is a very special concert. The cycle “Silence”, organized and programed by Jacob Lekkerkerker, is based on the idea of introspection, exploration, and experience.

The last concerts “Silence” has been arranged around the “instrument of troubled dreams” an instrument designed by the sound artists Cardiff and Miller. The instrument is an amazing sampler organ (mellotron), with field recordings, text readings and instrument samples that are spread through the whole church.
I participated in the last 2 concerts of this cycle. Silence #18 with Kaspar Kröner (countertenor), Margarida Sampaio (recorder), Oene Van Geel (viola), Gareth Davis (bass clarinet), and Jacob Lekkerkerker (mellotron) playing Sweelinck, Pärt and improvisations. And Silence #19 with Gareth Davis (bass clarinet), Carole Reis (organ) and Jacob Lekkerkerker (mellotron) playing two pieces by Alvin Lucier.
